   It is Mother Nature's own baby powder. Clay was one of the earliest substances

   to be used as a beauty mask - probably something to do with the fact that we all have

  lolled about in mud as children and loved it. In fact, it's quite safe to dust a baby's

  tender bottom with fine multani mitti, gopi chandan or Fuller's earth.

   For the hair

  
  Try this dry shampoo if you are in a hurry. Divide your hair into

   sections and fluff a little multani mitti powder through each section.

   Rub in well and leave for 10 minutes. Brush out thoroughly with a clean brush.

  The powder will absorb most of the grease and dirt.

   

• For damaged or dull hair try this treatment. Moisten your hair with

   warm water and massage a generous amount of refined oil (sesame or apricot oil)

  into your hair and scalp. Cover your hair with a plastic shower cap (or plastic wrap)

  and a towel. Leave on for at least one hour. Next, apply a mixture of multani mitti

   to your hair and scalp. Leave it on for 30 minutes. Using warm water,

  thoroughly rinse the mud from your hair and scalp. Shampoo as usual.

  Apply a liberal amount of refined oil to damp, towel dried hair and scalp.

   Comb through with a wide-tooth comb. Let your hair dry naturally.

  For treating split ends, massage your hair and scalp with olive oil.

  After two hours steam your hair for half an hour by wrapping a towel dipped in hot water.

  Wash your hair using a mix of multani mitti and curd (buttermilk for oily hair).

   The next day shampoo your hair with a regular shampoo.

  Vetiver

  Vetiver - Chrysopogon zizanioides (previously Vetiveria zizanioides) is a perennial grass of the Poaceae family, native to India. The name comes from Tamil. In western and northern India, it is popularly known as khus, giving the earlier English naMES cuscus, cuss cuss, kuss-kuss grass, etc. In Marathi it is called Wala Vetiver can grow up to 1.5 meters high and form clumps as wide. The stems are tall and the leaves are long, thin, and rather rigid; the flowers are brownish purple. Unlike most grasses, which form horizontally spreading mat-like root systems, vetiver's roots grow downward, 2–4 meters in depth. Vetiver is closely related to other fragrant grasses such as Lemon Grass (Cymbopogon citratus), citronella (Cymbopogon nardus, C. winterianus), and Palmarosa (Cymbopogon martinii). Though it originates in India, vetiver is widely cultivated in the tropical regions of the world. The world's major producers include Haiti, India, Java, and Réunion.

  Vetiver essential oil is derived from the complex white root system of a grass used in India and Sri Lanka for the creation of woven matting.

  In India and Sri Lanka, Vetiver essential oil is known as the "oil of tranquility". This is directly applicable to its common applications as a relaxing and comforting oil.

  Essential OilThe oil is amber brown and rather thick. The odor of vetiver oil is described as deep, sweet, woody, smoky, earthy, amber, balsam. The best quality oil is obtained from roots that are 18 to 24 months old. The roots are dug up and cleaned then dried. Before the distillation, the roots are chopped and soaked in water. The distillation process can take up to 18 to 24 hours. After the distillate separates into the essential oil and hydrosol, the oil is skimmed off and allowed to age for a few months to allow some undesirable notes which form during the distillation to dissipate. Like patchouli and sandalwood essential oils, the odor of vetiver develops and improves with aging. The characteristics of the oil can vary significantly depending on where the grass is grown and the climate and soil conditions. The oil distilled in Haiti and Réunion has a more floral quality to it and is considered of higher quality than the oil from Java which has a smokier scent. In the north of India, an oil is distilled from wild-growing vetiver. This oil is known as Khus or Khas and is considered superior to the oil obtained from the cultivated variety. 台湾对印度传统医学-阿输吠陀的认识应该不多，我上网Google了一下，中文网也都是非常浅薄的说明。

我对于Ayurveda 阿输吠陀的知识也都是从网络来的，因为对中医的兴趣，也激起了对印度传统医学的好奇，两者同属自然疗法，与西医的破坏治疗相反，中医讲阴阳调和，阿输吠陀追求身体平衡，治疗疾病的方法也是异曲同工。采取天然的草药，调和身体系统，让身体产生抵抗力来对抗疾病，并能有效预防疾病，而不是像西药，其目的是在杀死病毒病菌，却同时也伤害的身体机能与细胞。

我身体力行生活在中医的环境之下，对中医的依赖与信任无庸置疑。但印度草本有些日常生活能简单应用的好草药，无须深入了解阿输吠陀的医理，也能运用其草本带来的益处。像是美容方面，不用吃下肚子的，至少不用担心因不熟悉而误用。

我最初接触的印度草本是用于头发的草药，应该对印度女人美丽的头发有些印象吧，就说说前阵子电影台常回放的"奇魔侠"，里面的女主角，那一头乌黑亮丽的头发，就是印度美女的代表，她们的头发如何保养的呢？就是印度传统的护发草药的功劳啦，护发草药如Shikakai、Amla、Brahmi、Neem、柳橙皮、芦荟、无患子、指甲花、白檀等等。
而我最最推荐的如下：可能是因为顺发的效果非常明显，所以特别让我爱不释手。这些在印度从古时候就是用于洗发的草本植物，常保头发以及头皮的健康，促进毛发生长。

Shikakai：

Shikakai的英文名称是Soap pot（学名：Acacia-concinna），含有天然皂素成份。能使头发柔顺保湿，不听话的头发变得容易整理。因为不会洗去头皮天然的油脂，所以头皮能保持一定的润泽，头发也变得柔顺好整理。也能抑制头皮屑，预防白发的功效。可依照个人发质，加入其他草本，制作更适合自己发质的洗发护发素。

Amla：

Amla的英文名称是India?Gooseberry（学名：Emblica-officinalis），含有丰富的维他命Ｃ，Amla的维他命C是橙子的4倍，西红柿的8倍，是阿输吠陀重要的回春药草中之一，除了护发，在阿输吠陀的使用上，也是多种用途的药草。保护头皮，减少掉发，帮助毛发健康生长。能帮助发色变黑，有效减少白发。刚开始长白发时开始使用效果显著。可以给予头发光泽，对于毛发细发量少的人，能促进毛发恢复弹性、增加发量。

Brahmi：

阿输吠陀中重量级的草本，最主要的功用不在于头发，而在头皮，他能活用毛根附近的细胞，促进血液循环，有了健康的头皮才有健康的发质，预防白发，可使发色又黑又亮。和Amla一样以育毛著称，同时加入Brahmi毛发增长效果倍增。
另外Brahmi能活化脑神经与脑细胞，帮助提高注意力记忆力，也是天然镇定剂，能缓和紧张压力，帮助睡眠。

Orange Peel(柳橙皮)：

有抗菌、除菌的功效，避免头皮受到感染，定期使用，清洁头皮，抑制头皮屑，能使头发柔软有弹性。而且可以用来敷脸喔，有治疗粉刺、平衡油脂、预防青春痘的效果。
因此上述的草本我也都用来敷脸，取其泡出来的药汁护发，过滤出来的残渣就拿来敷脸，或者还是用来护发。

以下配方只是适用的剂量，第一次可先参考使用，接下来建议依照个人的发质调配适合的配方。阿输吠陀有多种养发草本，目前精挑了４种，未来陆续增加，再依照自己的状况增减份量。  

短发约50cc，即肩中长发约100cc，过肩长发约150cc。可依照自己的状况增减浓度。我的用量大概是10g调成100cc的护发药汁。  

一起来使用印度护发草本吧，让头发像丝绸一般，光滑柔顺，健康光泽。我的使用状况是，因台湾天气非常潮湿，所以昨晚洗过的头发，隔天就会受潮或出现毛躁，用印度草本不会有这种状况，头发保持光滑，稍微梳一下就好了。刚开始可能不习惯，或效果小一点，或调整适合的剂量，慢慢会渐入佳境，就不能没有它了。  

因为知道了市售洗发精添加硅灵以及其他化学物质，去年开始使用手工皂洗发，但我的头发似乎不太适合手工皂，头发变得比较硬，虽然头发头皮很健康，但是头发却不柔顺光滑，很难整哩，现在使用印度草本，就没有这困扰了，又健康又滑顺。  

建议配方：

适合任何发质的洗护剂量：  

Shikakai -5G＋Amla -2g ＋Brahmi -2g ＋Orange Peel -1g ＋水100cc

发质偏细较软，希望留长并增加发量：
Amla -6g＋Brahmi -4g ＋水100cc  

头发太粗、太多，不好整理：

Shikakai -8g＋Orange Peel -2g ＋Brahmi -2g ＋水100cc

头皮出油、或头皮屑：
Shikakai -6g＋Orange Peel -4g ＋Brahmi -2g ＋水100cc

头皮出油，发质细软：
Amla -5G＋Orange Peel -2g ＋Brahmi -5G＋水100cc

PS.
*头发太油的话，可再加入无患子或Neem
*我的情况是Orange Peel似乎会让头发偏软，可视自己的状况调整一下。
